You’re Only A Starter Until You Know The Basics
I headed over to Twitter this week and ran a poll as to what post you guys wanted this week and the conclusion was a starter’s makeup bag, I’ve decided to create a bag full of some of my favourite drugstore/high street products which I’d recommend to a starter. If you want to know what I have in my personal makeup bag then you need to read What’s In My Makeup Bag. As a personal choice, I’ve not included any brushes as I feel these are something you have to personally decide upon however I do highly recommend all the of the Real Techniques brushes, especially the kits if you are on a budget. Another product I feel is highly dependent on personal preference is primers, personally if you are starting out with a full face of makeup I’d recommend a silicone based primer such as Maybelline Baby Skin (£7.99) as it evens out skin tone and gives a solid base; my personal favourite is Nivea For Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm (£5.29).
Moving onto blush, contour and highlight my personal go to is the Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette (£6.00) as it contains shades that can be used for a soft contour (top left two) as well as pretty pink and peach blushes and then amazing highlight shades. The whole of this palette is extremely pigmented, meaning a little bit goes a long way! None of the shades are chalky and there is minimal fall out, not to mention they’re long lasting and don’t cling to dry patches either. Plus if you’re feeling experimental with eye shadow you can use all of these colours to create a beautiful peachy pink smoky eye. This palette is also fab for travelling as it has a massive mirror on it and I often find myself using this to do my makeup than my actual vanity mirror!
Next up is brows, now this is quite a scary thing if you’re just starting out with makeup but whatever you do, DON’T PLUCK THEM YOURSELF! You’ll thank me later. However that doesn’t mean you can’t use products in natural brows, I would consider starting with powders such as this MUA Pro-Brow Kit (£3.50) as it includes a range of shades plus a gel if you wish to fix your brows into place. This product also comes with a small brush and tweezers (which I appear to have lost…oops!) These powders a well pigmented but not to the stage where you have to be extremely light handed with them. For those slightly experienced with brows I’d recommend the NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade (£5.50) this is a slightly heavier product and helps to create a lot more defined (or on fleek) brow.
Now is the fun part, the eyes! Experimenting with shadow is one of my favourite things to do but no shadow is going to survive a day of errands without a primer, the first eye primer I ever purchased was and I Heart Makeup shadow primer however I’m not sure this is available anymore and therefore I’d recommend the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr (£4.99). This product can be used as a colour wash across the eyes or as a base colour which you can build upon, although it is slightly difficult to blend initially shadows blend beautiful on top of this product. An eye shadow palette I also recommend to people is the Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 1 (£4.00), as it is a dupe for the Naked 1. The shadows in this palette are highly pigmented, are beautiful colours as well as being long lasting. What makes it a good beginner palette is that the shadows are easy to blend, plus because it’s a direct dupe for a popular palette you can easily follow along to tutorials online. There is a big of fallout of these shadows but nothing that can’t be solved by gently dusting away.
Finally onto lips, this is something that is personal preference, however, I have included some of the first lip products I purchased including the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter (£7.99)in Juicy Papaya, Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream (£2.99) in Fairy Cake and Topshop Lips (£8.00) in Saint. When it comes to lip liners I am still new to the party but I recommend the Primark P.S Love lip liners (£1.00) and No7 Precision Lips Pencil (no longer avaliable)If you’d like me to a high-end version of this then please let me know if you’d be interested! I feel like everybody forgot about the cream puff lip products! They were the first 'liquid lipsticks' I ever brought! haha I was a victim of the over plucked brows, thank the heavens they grew back though x
I've just found your blog and it's amazing, I definitely had to follow you on Bloglovin. I really like the Makeup Revolution palette that you mentioned and it's an essential in my collection. Although I've never tried it for eyeshadows, I think that might be just a bit too daring for me! Great post! x

Lovely post with some amazing recommendations. I love Rimmel Stay Matte too and Color Tattoos are my absolute faves of all. I think I need to try that Collection liner…xxx
