Now unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you must have heard the hype around the latest Urban Decay release, Naked Heat. I love a good hype as much as the next person and I normally wait a while before purchasing something that is extremely hyped about…but I just had to have this palette. I needed it in my collection. While this is the 6th item in the Naked collection, this is only the second Naked palette I have owned (first being the Naked Smoky…which you can see me talk about here and here) Safe to say I bought this palette having high expectations.
I was super happy to pick up the Urban Decay Naked Heat in the presale back in June and since it arrived I’ve been obsessed with it. The shades within this palette are literally what I’m all about at the moment, I’ve been loving wearing oranges and burnt reds on my eyes since December and I’m still very much obsessed now. I did have to decide between ordering this particular palette or the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance as they follow quite similar colour schemes…plus they’re both pricey palettes as well.

Now I’m a massive lover of the plastic packaging Urban Decay have started to put some of their palettes in, while the velvet top (of the original Naked) looked amazing it seemed as though it got dirty quickly. On the other hand, the tin packaging of the Naked 2&3 didn’t seem the most travel-friendly (I’ve had so many tinned palettes get bent while travelling), therefore when I saw the Heat was in the same plastic packaging as the Smoky, I was extremely happy. I am also obsessed with the design on the front of the palette, it almost simulates the look of a flame up close to the point you can see the blue at the core of the flame.
The shades in the Naked Heat pull VERY red and I wouldn’t recommend this palette to anyone who is inexperienced to wearing warm shades on their eyes as it could end up quite messy (no offence). I feel that there are a good amount of matte, shimmer and metallic shades in this palette and the only thing that is missing is a really light colour that will pop in the inner corner and on the brow bone, other than that you can easily create multiple daytime appropriate looks…as well as more dramatic nighttime looks. My favourite shades include:
Low Blow–a yellow based brown matte. This is the shade that I often work through my crease as the perfect transition shade, or it works well on its own to create a natural definition to the eye socket.
He Devil–a burnt red matte. Now, this is a shade that I was drawn to as soon as I opened the palette and I really couldn’t wait to play with it…I don’t think I’ve created an eye look that hasn’t included this shade.
Scorched–pink toned metallic copper. I’m head over heels in love with this shade, it looks perfect just swept across the lid on its own or used as part of a more intense eye look.

Now the pigmentation on this shadows are quite hit and miss, some of the shades are super pigmented while others you have to work slightly more in order to the get the same kind of colour pay off. The extra work is certainly worth it as the colours do blend beautifully and while you have to work for pigmentation the shades do blend well. They do kick up a lot of powder and the shimmer shades often have a lot of fall out, which can be annoying if you do your base before your eyes like me. It’s nothing a brush and a beauty blender can’t fix though.
‣ The aesthetics, now this is a very aesthetically pleasing palette and I’ve been obsessed with photographing it since the minute it arrived at my door. I’ve had to resist spamming my Instagram with all the photographs. This palette is also great if you’re someone who loves wearing warm colours on your eyes, I created a look back in December (Sleigh the party season)using a palette which contained very similar colours to the Naked Heat. I feel like Urban Decay released this palette just in time for the start of AW17, but with shades that can also be used during the summer. I know I’ve personally been reaching for this palette a lot more than all of my other palettes…including my much loved M.A.C Warm Neutrals Palette.

Now I’ve been shouting from the rooftops about how much I love this palette, however, it does have some bad points. While the packaging is very swanky and durable, it does mean it is quite a chunky palette which makes it slightly awkward to store and to travel with (although it does fit into a large Ted Baker wash bag with ease). Also, I briefly mentioned the fact that most of the shadows have quite bad fall out and kick up quite a bit of powder which means both your face and the palette can get quite dirty quite quickly. There is also a shade lacking to really highlight your inner corner and brow bone, while the shade Ounce is pretty, I know that it personally doesn’t show up a lot on my pale skin and I prefer something with a bit more shimmer in to make my inner corner really pop. Like many other palettes available this one is also missing a matte black shade, which is always a quick and easy way to darken up the outer v or to smudge along the upper lash line rather than applying liquid liner.
Overall though this is a great palette with some beautiful shades, I would only rush out and purchase it, if these are all shades you would use regularly and feel comfortable experimenting with. If it isn’t then maybe try a cheaper alternative like the Makeup Revolution New-trals vs Neutrals (£6.99) or the MUA Eyeshadow Palette Burning Embers (£8.00) before splashing out the money on this palette.
